COURSE DESCRIPTION

What’s content got to do with anything?
April 8, 2008

Content versus context. Content is the jumping off point in any session. However, the meaning to life events is derived from the context and usage of these events. Only the client can interpret the metaphor and symbolism in their own life to draw understanding, strength, and experience to meet the challenges of change. In this workshop, learn the process and technique of optimizing client centered therapy by remaining neutral and unbiased. This is an experiential class using active listening and reframing skills to demonstrate the procedure for guiding and directing the process of healing.

This class covers the techniques of self-care for clinicians and caregivers providing awareness to the causes of emotional stress, strain and fatigue. Dr. Brickner offers practical application tips to ward off and avoid the emotional traps associated with compassion fatigue and stress.

Short/Client-Centered/Goal-Oriented/Solution-Based Therapy

The joy of working with people is in seeing them progress and manage the turbulence of life. Helping them gain perspective, understand their problems, and orchestrate change is the goal for successful intervention and positive treatment interaction. This class illuminates the client’s discovery of their own resources in order to determine a well developed and paced plan for change.
