Targeted Amino Acid Therapy (TAAT)

The neuro-chemicals in our brain need to be in balance to allow us to live a life of optimum health. Stresses, poor life style choices, drug use, genetic predispositions to mental illness, and toxins from chemicals and pollution often deplete neurochemicals and cause a multitude of problems from over-eating and insomnia to depression and anxiety, to name a few. TAAT uses nutritional amino acid supplements to target the specific imbalance.

Lab tests for saliva and urine are used to determine the imbalances in the brain’s neurochemicals (dopamine, serotonin, GABA, nor-epinephrine, etc) allowing recommendations of specific amino acids to correct these imbalances. Imbalances lead to symptoms of depression, anxiety, mood swings, PMS, low libido, stress, migraines, ADHD. The amino acids can be used alone or in conjunction with traditional medication to help people with these issues.

Referral Process/Making an Appointment

  1. Call the Center for Health and Healing (303-420-8080 ext 1102) to schedule an appointment.
  2. Arrive early to fill out intake paperwork or down load from www.lostandfoundinc.org and fill out at home. (Current clients of Lost and Found from another department will not need to fill out intake paperwork.)
  3. Bring a list of every medication and supplement you currently use including name, dosage, how frequently and how long you have been taking these.
  4. At the initial appointment, you can expect the following:
    • Review of your medical history and your reason for considering TAAT
    • An explanation of how to use the urine and saliva tests.
    • You will take the test kit home with you to complete and mail in along with your payment to the lab and a copy of the front and back of your insurance card for approved insurances. Typically it will take 8-10 days after you mail your lab tests before the results are back. Results will be sent directly to me.
  5. The second appointment will take place after the tests results are in.
    • At this time your test results will be explained to you and you will receive the recommendations for the specific amino acids your body needs to return it to a balanced state.
    • The first week or two you will take only those amino acids that are inhibitory—calm the body. Once those have been established, the excitatory amino acids will be added. Both types are needed to correct the imbalance in the system.
  6. At two months on the supplements, a second lab test is sent in and adjustments made to the recommended amino acids as needed.
  7. Usually 3 lab tests are completed in a 6 month period
